I’d never been to Val d Isere before and was pleasantly surprised, a nice place nestled in a steep sided valley. Refilling at the town water fountain with a few other riders it seemed like the perfect spot for breakfast No2, a lovely almond crepe and the obligatory coffee and cake. Refreshed it was time for the long hot climb up to the Col de L’iseran. I had never heard of this one before, probably because as I was told later that the Tour is barred from coming over here due to the destructive nature of the spectators.
Back on with the bags and off we go up the Tigne road, another early start and the shadows make for a pleasant start. Good job too, this is one long climbing section, starting immediately and continuing to rise for almost 30 Miles. Stravaland
