Earlier this year I was sharing a joke and some birthday cake with Guy in the pub after our fun regular Wednesday ride, he was as full of life and as healthy as ever.
The following Wednesday we stood in silence outside his house, shocked, stunned we would never ride with Guy again. Just writing this there are tears in my eyes once more.
With no warning Guy lost his life rapidly to Sepsis, a killer that just doesn’t register on our radar and his wife Wendy is keen to help raise awareness of Sepsis and support the Sepsis Trust in their research and development.
Ride for Guy starts from The Gorilla Firm in Oundle Wharf at 10am on Sunday 10th September following a 10 mile lap before Food and Beer .
Wendy and the Gorilla Firm have arranged a ride for Guy, an entry fee to take part is by donation in remembrance of Guy to Sepsis. Ride for Guy Details
It’s only fitting to do something a bit Guy, he loved a challenge. So starting from Saturday 9th Sept at 12 noon I will be riding 24 Heures du Guy around the lap. The aim is to do up to 30 laps before a few recovery beers and food on Sunday. (p.s’ I have never managed to ride 300 miles in a day yet!) It would be nice to share the ride with you on any of the laps, online discussions of progress encouraged and hand ups of cake always appreciated.
The aim: Hopefully this will encourage friends and anyone who thinks I have helped them in any way over the years to each add another £10 to the donation page, £10 or less is fine, lots of small donations are better than “that’s a good idea and doing nothing”
The 10 mile lap of suffering, so hopefully many others don’t have to.
Guestimate from Strava is a modest 42 min a lap for 30 laps and 2hrs to spare for food and natural breaks, not a walk in the park. Sunset at 7:31 pm and sunrise at 6:28 am so 11 hours of darkness will be tough!
